Why MAT?

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) is revolutionary in its thought process: muscle tightness is secondary to muscle weakness. Find the area(s) of weakness, and solve the tightness problem.

Muscle Activation Techniques was founded on the principle that human movement and exercise are fundamental to human health. A muscle’s health (demonstrated by its ability to contract efficiently) is important for normal movement. Any loss of muscle contraction efficiency may be demonstrated as a loss of motion and subsequent decreased physical performance. MAT™ is a specific and unique process for evaluating an individual’s ability to produce efficient muscle contraction(s). This is done by first measuring and comparing specific limb and trunk motions of the body on both the right and left sides. The human body should be symmetrical in its function right side to left side, and therefore any discrepancy between sides indicates a compensation pattern.

What makes MAT™ unique?

  • MAT™ works WITH the body to make improvements in performance, causing increases in motion by improving muscle contraction.
  • The systematic approach of combined MAT™ strategies.
  • MAT™ improves a specific aspect of a muscle’s contractile capabilities and the subsequent range of motion.
  • The MAT process does not attempt to directly lengthen or change the muscle by stretching, heating, kneading, or foam rolling.
  • MAT™ does not try to “relax” muscle, but instead tries to “activate” muscle.

“The benefit of MAT™ is that the changes can be immediate”, says Greg Roskopf, the founder and developer of MAT. “A professional baseball pitcher increased his throwing velocity by 10 mph, immediately following an MAT™ session. This was due to improved mechanics combined with pain-free motion. We see these types of changes every day.”
