Prerequisite: Certified MAT® Specialist with at least 6 months post graduate experience.

Description: This course places an emphasis on the advanced evaluation of the Upper Body using the MAT® knowledge and skills obtained in the JumpStart and Internship courses. There will be a good mixture of lecture and practical application.

Course Objectives include:

  1. Understanding the difference between “Basic” and “Advanced”.
  2. A Review of Minimum MAT® Technical Competencies.
  3. Improving the Interpretation of an Upper Extremity Comparative Assessment of Mobility (CAM).
  4. Providing a Pathway for moving current skills towards advanced skills.

Course Goals:

  1. Define what constitutes the Human Upper Extremity.
  2. Identify the Levers and Joints of the Upper Extremity.
  3. Identify and Discuss the Muscles of the Upper Extremity.
  4. Explore the Mechanical Relationships between the Axial and Appendicular Skeletons
  5. Explore “Thinking Mechanically”.
  6. Take a Closer Look at the AMC&S Manual Muscle Test.
  7. Take home self-directed tools for implementing and expanding on the concepts and principles presented.
