Meet The Founder: Greg Roskopf

With a profound passion for optimizing human movement and performance, Greg developed MAT to address muscle imbalances and enhance overall physical function.

Greg's journey to developing Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) began with a personal injury. While playing college football, he sustained a back injury, leading to chronic pain and ending his football career. Despite a background in strength and conditioning, his own unresolved pain and a lack of understanding of muscle function in relation to injury drove him to explore deeper into the muscle system. He encountered various treatments focusing on muscle tightness but found no lasting relief, sparking his interest in understanding the true root of his pain.

Greg's pivotal moment came while working with the Utah Jazz, alongside chiropractor Dr. Craig Buhler, who specialized in clinical kinesiology. Through muscle testing techniques learned from Dr. Buhler, Greg identified a pattern: muscle tightness was secondary to muscle weakness. He observed that addressing muscle weaknesses could alleviate the protective muscle tightness, a realization that shifted his perspective on treatment. This insight laid the foundation for Greg's development of MAT, focusing on strengthening weak muscles to restore full range of motion and stability.

Combining his strength and conditioning expertise with this new understanding, Greg created MAT to address muscle imbalances and improve overall function. He recognized that traditional treatments targeting tightness were only addressing symptoms, not the underlying causes. By focusing on muscle activation, Greg developed a method that provided long-term relief and stability, helping athletes and clients achieve better performance and pain-free movement. This innovative approach, born from personal experience and professional collaboration, became the core of Muscle Activation Techniques.
